WORKING WITH GRAMMY-WINNING ARTIST BOB MOSES, WE DEVELOPED THE VISUAL IDENTITY FOR THEIR LATEST ALBUM RELEASE CAMPAIGN, AS WELL AS CREATED EVERY PIECE OF CONTENT WITHIN IT. THAT INCLUDES FIVE MUSIC VIDEOS, ONE FEATURE-LENGTH CONCERT FILM AND 100+ OTHER PIECES OF CONTENT. WE NOT ONLY DEVELOPED A NEW CREATIVE DIRECTION FOR THEM, BUT WORKING WITHIN THAT NEW FRAMEWORK, WE DELIVERED THEIR MOST VIEWED -- AND SHARED -- MUSIC VIDEO OF ALL TIME.

MAKING THE VIDEO


WE CREATED AN INTERACTIVE MUSIC VIDEO FOR BOB MOSES’ SINGLE “DESIRE”, WHICH FEATURES ELECTRONIC MUSIC SUPERSTAR ZHU. AFTER IT LAUNCHED, IT QUICKLY BECAME THEIR MOST VIEWED VIDEO OF ALL TIME.

THE CREATIVE IDEA WAS TO MAKE A VIDEO THAT REVEALS BOTH THE POSITIVE SIDE AND DARK SIDE OF DESIRE BY GIVING FANS THE ABILITY TO SWITCH BETWEEN TWO DIFFERENT STORIES VIA AN INTERACTIVE PLAYER.

TO DO THIS, WE CUSTOM-MADE AN INTERFACE ON INTERACTIVE PLATFORM EKO WITH TWO BUTTONS -- “PLEASURE” AND “PAIN”. BY SELECTING THEM, VIEWERS CAN CHOOSE WHETHER TO SEE A BLUE-COLORED NARRATIVE ABOUT PAIN, A RED-COLORED STORY ABOUT LOVE, OR BOTH WITH THE TWO OVERLAID.

THE VIDEO WAS DESIGNED SO WHEN BOTH VIDEOS ARE OVERLAID, THE TWO ANIMATIONS LINE UP PERFECTLY TO CREATE A STUNNING VISUAL THAT SHOWS HOW THE TWO CHARACTERS ARE EXPERIENCING DESIRE TOGETHER. THEN WHEN A BUTTON IS SELECTED, ONE LAYER OF ANIMATION IS REMOVED TO REVEAL HOW ONE CHARACTER IS EXPERIENCING PAIN, AND THE OTHER PLEASURE. THE RESULT IS A FIRST-OF-ITS-KIND INTERACTIVE VIDEO.

MAKING THE MOVIE

WE MADE A FEATURE-LENGTH CONCERT FILM FOR BOB MOSES SHOT AT AN ABANDONED RADIO WAVE TOWER IN LA, OVERLOOKING TOPANGA CANYON. IN IT, VIEWERS ARE TAKEN ON A JOURNEY OF EPIC PROPORTIONS AS BOB MOSES TRAVELS DOWN THE COLD WAR-ERA STRUCTURE, PERFORMING IN DIFFERENT PLACES ALONG THE WAY.

WE OVERSAW PRODUCTION AND CTRL5 FOUNDER OWEN BROWN DIRECTED THE FILM. OUR TEAM SPENT DAYS RIGGING THE TOWER WITH ELECTRICITY AND TRANSFORMING IT INTO OUR SET. ALL OF THE EQUIPMENT WAS HAULED UP 200 FEET BY HAND, INCLUDING HUNDREDS OF LIGHTS AND DOZENS OF INSTRUMENTS.

LIVESTREAM-STYLE CONTENT HAS BEEN A MAJOR TREND RECENTLY, AND EVERY ARTIST HAS APPROACHED IT FROM A DIFFERENT CREATIVE STANDPOINT. OURS SPECIFICALLY WAS TO MAKE A LIVE CONCERT FILM. IN THAT PURSUIT, MANY OF THE SHOTS WERE METICULOUSLY PLANNED OUT TO CREATE IMPACTFUL VISUAL MOMENTS. TO CAPTURE MANY OF THEM WE USED FOUR DRONE PILOTS -- ONE EVEN FLEW TWO DRONES SIMULTANEOUSLY.

DESIRE CAN BE A SOURCE OF PAIN, NOT JUST PLEASURE. ⁣WE USED THAT IDEA, ONE OF THE MAIN THEMES ON THE RECORD, TO CREATE THESE WARNING SIGNS THAT CAUTION AGAINST DESIRE. AFTER DESIGNING THEM, WE PLACED THEM IN VIDEOS AND POSTERS ACROSS THE RELEASE CAMPAIGN AS EASTER EGGS FOR FANS TO FIND.
